Emergency Plumbing: What to Do Before We Arrive

Plumbing emergencies can happen at any time in Thames Valley homes. Here's what to do to minimize damage before our emergency team arrives.

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate your main stop tap (usually under the kitchen sink or where the water pipe enters your property) and turn it clockwise to stop the water flow.

Step 2: Turn Off Electricity

If water is near electrical outlets or appliances, turn off electricity at the consumer unit to prevent electrocution risk.

Step 3: Drain the System

Turn on all taps to drain remaining water from the pipes. Flush toilets to empty cisterns.

Step 4: Contain the Water

Use buckets, towels, or tarpaulins to catch dripping water and protect your belongings.

Step 5: Call Thames Valley Heating & Plumbing

Our emergency line (07828 727661) is available 24/7 across Reading, Slough, High Wycombe, and all Thames Valley locations.
